Journey to Lampa The Pink city or on route – Half day
Lampa is a relic of the colonial architecture that reflects its historical importance as a center of culture, power and tradition during the colonial era. This peaceful town is also called the Pink City because of the color of its clay that is used to paint all houses and colonial mansions, they transport us to past by observing and appreciating monuments as valuable as its temple erected under the name of Santiago Apostle, it has Renaissance influence and the construction dates back to 1678. It was built with more than 90 thousand bricks and stones. The bell tower is located in a separate area; the ceilings of the nave are topped with bright glazed tiles. In a crypt next to the temple there is a small chapel built on an ossuary with a replica in bronze of the famous sculpture “La Pieta” by Miguel Ángel, there are mysterious catacombs beneath the temple, where lie the remains of the benefactor of the city engineer Enrique Torres Belon surrounded by 1500 skulls and 50 complete skeletons. We can also find a Christ made of cow leather, there are only two in the world (one in Pamplona, Spain) and the other in Lampa, and its stitches seem to be the veins of the articulated arms. There is a replica of Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci in a real size and three-dimensional bulk, a Holy Sepulchre brought of Rome 250 years ago and a huge Belgian organ on the choir.
