Huchuy Qosqo Trek to Machu Picchu 2 days Itinerary:

Day 1: Cusco – Tauca – Huchuy Qosqo Pass – Huchuy Qosqo – Lamay – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes (Trekking and train)
We will pick you up from your hotel and drive towards the small town of Tauca (3750m). The landscape is the typical Andean landscape with valleys rich in corn, potato and quinoa. As you ascend to the the pass at 4050 meters, the landscape changes dramatically to the Puna (high Andes) landscape, with scant vegetation, mainly “ichu” (high altitude grass). The views of the Cordillera Vilcabamba are amazing and you will observe the snow peaks of Veronica, Pitusiray, Chico and San Juan. After crossing the pass we will descend towards Huchuy Qosqo, the path will taks us to Ccauca ravine where we will see archeological vestiges and wild crops of tarwi and large quantity of cactus.
We will keep walking down until we arrive to Leon Punku ravine where we will find some vestiges of an Inca brigde and trail. This canyon boasts geological formations surrounded by magnificent rocks. Huchuy Qosqo (“Little Cusco”) is an archeological complex knonw for its fine stonework, there is a large Kallanka (rectangular Hall), some residential and defensive quarters. Huchuy Qosqo is located in a hill surrounded by Inca terraces and splendid views of Vilcabamba. We will continue down to Lamay at 2900m where the transportation will be waiting to transfer us to Ollantaytambo in order to take the train to Aguas Calientes. We will spend the night in the town.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco Machu Picchu
We will have a very early breakfast and then head towards Machu Picchu archeological site by bus. We plan to arrive to the complex around 6AM, once there you will have guided tour and learn more about the history and culture of Incas. Then you will have plenty of time to explore on your own. When you are ready to get down to Aguas Calientes, you will take the bus down. In the town you can enjoy a relaxing time at the hot springs, the entrance ticket is 10 soles per person. The train will depart from Aguas Calientes in the late afternoon.
