Huchuy Qosqo and Sacred Valley 2D/1N – Private Service

Huchuy Qosqo is an archeological complex located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and after Pisaq and Ollantaytambo is the most important site of the valley.

The site was built before Pisaq and Ollantaytambo since it was part of the Inca Trail in Peru. When the Chancas, the enemies of the Incas, threaten Cusco in 1438, the Incas left the city and took refuge in this palace, Huchuy Qosqo.

During the Spanish conquest, Gonzalo Pizarro found a mummy in this site and ordered to burn it, the descendants of the Incas recovered the ashes and keep in a box that was discovered years later.

This Inca site can be gotten by foot; you will have two options to discover this wonderful place. One option will take you to discover many archeological sites and towns of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the other option will take you to Machu Picchu.

Day 1: Chinchero (Valley of Cuper) – Pucamarca – Huchuy Qosqo

We will depart from Cusco and head to site of Chinchero (3760 meters) by car. From here, we will begin hiking up and follow the path until we reach the pass at 4200 meters. Then we will descend into the beautiful green valley, pass a town and a beautiful Lake Qoricocha (Golden Lake) and continue until we arrive to the second pass (4300 meters). From here we will have a stellar view of the surrounding mountains. Lastly we will continue descending to Huchuy Qosqo (3650 meters). We will camp at this place under a great starry sky.

Day 2: Huchuy Qosqo – Lamay – Maras Moray – Salt Mine Maras

The site of Huchuy Qosqo is located above the Urubamba Valley overseeing the small town of Lamay; people from this town live of the agriculture and farming.

Huchuy Qosqo was an administrative center; it was made of stone and adobe and is a perfect example of Inca architecture and the fitting stones. We will continue hiking on the path with the Pitusiray surrounding us.

Our private transportation will pick us up from Lamay and drive to Maras Moray, Salt mines and Chinchero, and visit the archeological sites and the colonial town. We will be back in Cusco at around 6PM.
